Tying the Knot ~ A Nice Addition to Your Wedding!

Thomas Witham, Guest Author

“Tying the Knot” is a wedding ceremony that can be added to the main wedding ceremony whereby a couple ties a fisherman’s knot as their ceremony’s Primary Option. As a primary option, it is used after the exchanges of vows and rings. The couple, using large colored cords, ties this knot as the officiant reads a commentary. That commentary appears below. The theme of the commentary is that, like a fisherman’s knot, marriage strengthens and supports the bride and groom through life and, like the knot, their marriage grows stronger under pressure. A YouTube.com video of my first couple to use this option, Jeremy and Melanie, appears below.

Below is a sample of a “Tying the Knot” ceremony.

_____ and _____ have just sealed their relationship with the giving and receiving of rings. Today their relationship is further symbolized by the tying of a fisherman’s knot; a true lovers knot, for it is the strongest there is; its bond will not break, becoming ever stronger under pressure.

These two cords represent each of you as individuals – as the unique and special gifts you bring to your marriage. As you fasten your pieces together, these actions represent the joining of your two lives into one common purpose. The completed knot represents your future, secure in the knowledge your relationship will continue to be strong, despite the inevitable changes life brings.

Although the fisherman’s knot is one of the simplest to tie, it is also one of the sturdiest. As stress is applied, the knot becomes ever stronger. It is the goal of marriage to achieve a blending of hearts and lives, but like the spaces between these cords formed by the knot, let there also be spaces in your new life together, so each may encourage and nurture the individual growth of the other.

I ask that you now pull on this rope to see it strengthen under pressure while still allowing us to see the individual cords – just as your support of one another as beautiful and blessed individuals strengthens your union. As you hold one another in mutual concern and shared respect, may you continue holding each other tightly in your hearts and form a strong bond, now and forever. Let this knot indicate the strength of your love and be a symbol of your unity from this day forward.

The above words for the “Tying the Knot” ceremony were written by Thomas Witham, Wedding Officiant. Larry’s NOTE: When I get a request to add the “Tying the Knot” ceremony to the wedding ceremony, I allow the bride and groom to edit the words in any way they choose.

How to Tie a Fisherman’s Knot

Step 1: Grab ends. Grab a hold of both ends of the rope. The end in your left hand is end B, and the end in your right hand is end A.

Step 2: Cross ends. Cross end B in front of end A so that the end B is behind the loop and pointing down.

Step 3: Pull end B through loop. Pull end B up through the loop and to the left, thus creating a small loop on top of the larger loop below.

Step 4: Pull end B through small loop. Pull end B through the small loop from back to front with your right hand.

Step 5: Tighten knot. Tighten the knot by pulling end B with your right hand, while holding the part of the large loop next to end A in your left hand. You should now have a knot on the top of your large loop, and end A should be able to slide back and forth to make the loop larger or smaller.

Step 6: Pull end A through large loop. Pull end A through the large loop from behind, pull it up, thus creating another small loop on top of the larger loop below.

Step 7: Pull end A through small loop. Pull end A through the small loop from back to front, and pull tightly with your left hand.

Blended Family… He Turns to His Bride’s Daughter to Give His Vows & Everyone is in Tears

There’s so much to say about Whitney and Brian. They live in North Carolina and were planning a wedding in the mountains of McCall, Idaho, but PenWeddings got the chance to take a short trip to meet them before their big day when they were in Texas for a weekend. We instantly fell in love not just with the two of them, but also their daughter Brielle (affectionately known as Breezy). Brian came into Whitney and Breezy’s lives a couple of years ago, and his love for both of them is almost tangible. There were many amazing moments over their wedding weekend, but nothing touched us more than their sweet notes and vows to one another… except perhaps for Brian’s vows to Brielle. If that doesn’t bring you to tears, I don’t know what will.

It looks like Whitney, Brian, and Brielle are off to an amazing start. It is hard to watch them give their vows to each other, and Brielle, without getting just a little bit teary eyed.

Tissue, please!

What a great way to include Brielle and honor the daughter of his bride. Another great way to include children in the wedding ceremony is to add the Blending of the Sands and let the children choose their own color of sand. Read: Blending the Sands Ceremony – Bride, Groom and Children.

This is for Brides and Grooms who are looking for a customized, “romantic” wedding ceremony with some refreshing words that will capture the attention of your guests; one that is truly different from the ordinary, traditional wedding ceremony. If that’s what you are looking for you’ve come to the right place. Your wedding is your very romantic day! We want to help you create a day uniquely your own and make it a memorable event.

Larry’s Note: A very special “Thank you” to Sarah & Carl Anderson of Princess Bride Cinematic Videography for their contribution and excellent work on top two videos below. Visit their Website: www.PrincessBrideVideo.com. Arizona (Greater Phoenix Area & Tucson) and Minnesota (Twin Cities Area).

The following video showcases Larry James, non-denominational minister, professional speaker, author & relationship coach. Larry performs the most “romantic” wedding ceremony you will find anywhere. Enjoy this clip from a wedding performed at Sassi Ristorante in Scottsdale featuring Tasha and Brian Winkels. Do You Need a Videographer?

Jason Melendez, Guest Author

Some couples just don’t like the idea of a wedding video and want nothing more that a good photography package to preserve their memories. But before skipping over video altogether, take a few moments to consider what you’ll be getting with a good videographer, and how the possibilities offered by the latest technical gear and editing equipment stack up to your friend’s camcorder or to photography along.

WEDvideoCouples often feel as though their wedding day went by in a blur. After months of planning and effort, the big day comes in a rush, and everything happens so fast and with such emotion that before they know it, the day is over.

A good wedding video is like a time machine that can take you back to your wedding day any time you like. You can experience all the sounds, action, subtle details ad endearing documentary that will be available to your children, and so on. Imagine being able to watch your grandparents’ wedding or their grandparents’.

Do the words “wedding video” invoke thoughts of a cheesy soundtrack, amateurish screen wipes and complete, unbroken coverage of the chicken dance? Today, digital video and editing technology make it easier and more affordable than ever to create wedding videos as engaging and sophisticated as quality television documentaries, complete with voice-over interviews, flashbacks, professional scene cuts, special effects and more. The style you choose is up to you, but you have more choice for capturing the sights, sounds, and action of your special day more than ever before.

ePlan

Videography vs. Photography

Ask a photographer and he’ll probably tell you that photography is more important. Ask a videographer and he’ll stress the importance of both. The real question is, how important is videography to you? Remember that while you can’t put your wedding video in a frame above the mantle or pull it out of your wallet to show a friend, a photograph can’t capture the sound of your voices exchanging vows or the sounds and activity of your reception party.

Larry’s NOTE: With smart phones and iPads, you can more easily show video to your friends now more than ever before.

When it comes to wedding videos, there’s something about the live action capture of such a special moment that can take you back like nothing else. Consider how popular movies are today as a way of telling a story. Videography is quickly becoming less of an optional side-kick to photography and more of an equal partner in preserving the memory of your day.

Larry’s Note: A very special “Thank you” to Sarah & Carl Anderson of Princess Bride Cinematic Videography for his contribution and excellent work on the video below. Visit his Website: www.PrincessBrideVideo.com. Arizona (Greater Phoenix Area & Tucson) and Minnesota (Twin Cities Area). – 5 Stars from Larry James!

We found one adventurous bride who was willing to be the first to wear Google Glass on her Wedding day. The result is the first wedding to be filmed via Google Glass and wearable technology, a brides-eye view of her wedding day. Jessica Kuan and Steven Soong were married August 24th, 2013.

The video seamlessly captures Jessica’s perspective from behind the veil as part of a project for a Tumblr called OkGlassIDo.com, which seeks to document the way technology is increasingly involved in traditions and relationships.

Shedding Pounds for the Wedding!

Filed under: Losing Weight for Your Wedding,Wedding Video — Larry James @ 7:30 am
Tags: ,

If you (a Bride or a Groom) are looking to lose some weight before your wedding, NOW is a good time to begin – sooner if possible! Can’t stand the idea of walking down the aisle looking like you do now? Looking in the mirror and liking what you see is important.

Woman-on-ScaleIn a 2000 Cornell study of 273 women who were getting married within the year, 70 percent of respondents reported wanting to lose more than 20 pounds. But in reality, by wedding day, their average weight loss was only seven pounds.

First, determine how much weight you want to lose before your wedding. Set an achievable goal – several dress sizes or several pounds – that’s up to you. Keep your health in mind. It is important that you are healthy and alert on your wedding day.

Robyn Flipse is a registered dietitian specializing in food, nutrition and health communications, says, “If you’d like to drop 10 lbs., you need at least 5 to 10 weeks. If you already ordered a dress in a smaller size and haven’t allowed enough time to sensibly and safely lose the weight you want, you better be sure to have a good tailor or postpone the wedding by a few more weeks.”

brideCandySome say that the stress of planning your wedding makes it even harder to lose weight. In wedding planning, there are a lot of concerns. Issues on the date, the place, the food, and most especially on the wedding dress. My suggestion is to hire the best professionals you can to assist you with your wedding plans. Your craving for chocolate, refined carbs, etc., often get worse during stressful times. When most of us are stressed, we often turn to food for comfort. A wedding consultant can truly be your “special angel” when it comes to taking care of the details and loose ends. This will free you up to focus on dropping a few pounds before your big day.

Eat breakfast. You’ll be less likely to overeat later in the day. Don’t eat red meat. Salmon works well, and brussel sprouts, and other leafy green veggies. Definitely stay away from fried foods. A great way to burn calories is to increase your exercise. Exercise at a vigorous intensity on most days of the week for at least 30 minutes a day. Give up late hours – get enough sleep. This is how your body rejuvenates itself from the work you are doing. Keep in mind weight lost quickly is mostly water weight and may not be permanent unless you continue a realistic exercise and nutrition plan after the wedding.

applesInchesOpps!Do not eat because your watch tells you to. Eat because your body is asking for food. Don’t eat out. Drink lots of water. Carry a bottle of water wherever you go. It’s a good habit to have whether you’re losing weight or not – especially in Arizona where the temperatures can ease past 100 degrees quite often. Savor your food. Eat slowly, chewing the food properly and, above all, tasting it. Eat lots of veggies and fruits for your snacks. Keep an emergency snack on hand. Avoid salt and caffeine. Replace coffee with green tea. Besides the energy it provides, it also helps you to lose weight.

Limit alcohol. Not only is it highly caloric, but it also stimulates appetite and obliterates willpower. It causes you to forget about your nutrition plan and overindulge.

“It’s natural for brides and grooms to want to look their best for their wedding day, and going about it the right way can make the difference between living healthier, or heavier, ever after.” ~ Jennifer Warner

Don’t allow yourself to get down on yourself. Keep a positive attitude about your plan. Don’t struggle. Consistency is key! It may be helpful to asks the girls in your bridal party to participate in your “shedding” with you.

Be careful not to get sucked in by all the showers, parties, and outings prior to your wedding. Stay with healthiest choices. Create lasting memories that don’t revolve around eating.

If you don’t reach your weight loss goal, be sure to have a seamstress on call just in case. Or. . . have a really great photographer who can help you lose weight with Photoshop! 😉

Here is a cute video depicting others who may want to lose weight before their friend’s wedding:

Slow Motion Video Booth – The Best New Trend in Reception Entertainment

Move over wedding photo booths! There’s a new reception activity in town and it’s awesome! Photo booths at receptions are completely fun. I can’t even count how many strips I’ve saved from weddings and still love to look at, but check out this new take via video production company Super Frog Saves Tokyo, which shot this using a red epic camera.

I have a feeling this will be the next big thing in reception entertainment. Check it out for yourself in the video below and let us know what you think in the comments!
